Zeitun, which means olive in Arabic, is the green and unifying symbol of the Mediterranean basin. The meeting of Ermanno Panta (vocals, flute, tenor sax), Sergi Gómez (flamenco guitar), Daniel Abad (double bass) and Luati González (drums), amazing jazz musicians coming from Sicily, Catalonia and Andalusia, has spontaneously generated a unique sound: inspiring, warm and deeply original. Last year Banda Zeitun has performed in more than 20 festivals and concert venues.
In 2018 Banda Zeitun will record the new album (Narrator Records label, Hungary) and will be performing during the winter-spring tour in: Balearic Islands, Andalusia, Canary Islands, Catalonia, Hungary, the Netherlands, France. “Musas de Sicilia, Formentera e Ishbilia” is the new eclectic show of the band (90 minutes approx.): a vibrant jazz performance in which Zeitun takes on the wondrous challenge of strengthening ties with flamenco and sicilian music.
Original tunes are inspired by mediterranean soundscapes and are sung in three languages; fine and modern arrangements and great interplay shape an energetic and elegant show in which jazz aesthetics blend with the pursuit of trance, so unique to the ancestral musical cultures in the Mediterranean basin.
Banda Zeitun do not offer to us a stubborn imitation of canons, nor an unjustified break with tradition, but a careful elegant recollection of the past, blended with present to look at the future, all in a very personal, innovative way.
Somehow they confirm the Mediterranean Sea as a cultural space devoted to the cultural meeting and fusion, a space much bigger than the single nations and far beyond the differences of languages and religion.
